“Bark Side” #1 on SHOOT’s Music and Sound Charts

Our musical sound design work on Volkswagen’s viral hit “The Bark Side” has earned us top honors on SHOOT’s Top Ten Spot Tracks chart for the Spring. To go along with our #1 spot there was a feature story and interview with Jeff about our process creating the soundtrack and also highlighting some of our past musical sound design work. You can read the full feature here.
The figuratively offbeat, literally on-beat “The Bark Side” earned the number one slot on SHOOT’s first quarterly Top Ten Tracks Chart of the new year.
“The most challenging aspects of the process, both creatively and technically, all centered around trying to make the final track/spot as believable as possible,” related Elmassian. “We spent a lot of time finding the right balance between raw bark sounds recorded on set and in our studio and barks that were digitally pitched or altered. The tune needed to be recognizable for the spot to work so we pitched and effected barks and layered them in to create a solid basis for the melody. At the same time there was also the task of matching up bark sounds to each individual dog so that the bark you were hearing made sense with the specific dog you were seeing on screen.”

Welcome to “The Bark Side”

The Super Bowl, Volkswagen, Star Wars, Endless Noise…Sound familiar? The old gang is back together after the success of last year’s “The Force” with a new spot called “The Bark Side” featuring 11 very cute dogs barking “The Imperial March” and one very ridiculous AT-AT. All of the crew at Endless Noise were extremely excited about working on this one with our friends at Deutsch LA. We acted as “Barkestrators” composing and arranging this canine chorus. With Arf Vader leading the pack we may all be headed for The Bark Side…

Our work on the Volkswagen spot “Rocket Man” was featured on SHOOT Magazine’s Top Ten Spot Tracks for Winter 2011 at #6 on the chart. We worked with the team at Deutsch LA to best arrange their use of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” in their many hilarious vignettes and also composed an “Elevator music” version of the track that can be heard (rather briefly) in the elevator scene.
Here’s a split of our elevator music/jazzy arrangement of “Rocket Man” for your enjoyment!

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid “One Less Battery”

If you’re a football fan (or have been watching TV at all lately) you’ve probably come across our latest spot for the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid called “One Less Battery.” Endless Noise composed the original score as well as creating the sound design track which was really essential to the commercial’s concept. We got to spend a day on set with Lance Accord capturing all of the funny and frustrating sounds you hear. The commercial may stir up bad memories of your own smoke alarm woes, but we think it’s healthy to laugh about it. Enjoy!
